What would you do?

So, I am trying to get use to this being home thing. I've got the vegging out, do nothing all day D.O.W.N. P.A.T. Trust me! But geesh I can't do this forever.

Here are my ramblings... they may not make sense but I have to get them down to be able to sort through them and such.

Do I get another job right away? Well, I have been applying to several different places, but not so much as a phone call or email back in return yet. If I do stay home for awhile, I could finish my degree online (I have 8 classes left to have a double major). But this wouldn't start until May. So, my husband says we can take some of our tax return and use that for what would of been my income and live off of that. I have mixed emotions about that. I never wanted to spend it all, I wanted to save some. We don't have a huge savings, so if he lost his job...we would be screwed. But it would be so nice to stay home. I also feel some guilt with this decision too. It's almost as if I feel I am not worth it to be happy or have some relaxation time. I know that isn't the best way to think, but it does cross my mind.

If I do go to school, my student loans would stop so that would save us $$ each month, plus we could live off the extra money we get from the student loans.

It's all so up in the air. But I think I am leaning towards live off the taxes for a bit, go back to school in May and hope that some extra loan money will make up for the difference for the months I would be in school.

Does this idea sound crazy to anyone? Please give me your opinions and I won't be offended, I promise!

that is a tough situation. If you did finish your degree it might make for a more money job in the end. If you are only 8 classes left then it wouldn't take long. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and go for it. I am hope that helps. Is your hubbies job one he could lose without much warning?

Good luck with your choice. IF it were me I would say finsidh school as fast as possible and then see where the job search takes you.

Christina, Hubby's job is stable but I am always a "what if" person. Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it.

Finish school, definitely!

I say school. Especially if you can do it online. I'm with Christina, if you get your degree, getting a new, better job should be that much easier!! Good luck!! I'll be thinking about you!

Hi,
I just found your blog via 2kids2tired and loved your blog name.
I have a friend who has went through a similar situation and has gone back to school and lived off loans and stopped previous loans. She is in tremendous debt and her life has now changed a bit and the debt holds her back. I don't know too much about your situation but I do believe that anytime we take on more debt it keeps us free from doing some things. Sometimes that's ok as there is a good plan to remove it and sometimes it just gets in the way.
Hope you don't mind my comment.

I don't think it sounds crazy at all!! Education can never hurt you! Only make you better when it is done, which will equate to MORE MONEY. If you have scrimp now, I say do it.

OR, you can get a fun little job to help out, but one that wouldn't require a lot of your time, brain power, and energy.

:) Good luck, can't wait to see how your journey goes!

I'm with everyone else - finish school!! Now, since it doesn't start until May, you have decide if you want to live off your tax money or go back to work. I would say - work until May (part-time if you want - something you can easily walk away from) and then quit and go back to school. Save your tax money if you can (working 1/2 time). May is only 2 1/2 months away. If you did find a part-time job, you could still be home to relax a lot of the time, make some money and not have to use all the tax $ and then quit for good in May when you start to school and have more $ due to the student loans. It's easy for me to say - but, if $ is the issue (and I'm not saying it is) then, you could just work part-time (maybe somewhere like Steinmart and then you could also get a discount - wait, I want that job!). Good luck!

Thanks for coming by and thanks for your prayers for our sweet baby. Take care and I'll see you soon. Kellan

I would say school. Take a full week off without even sending a resume or looking at the job ads. Then hit it revitalized and get a job until school. Save the tax money for emergencies. Plow through your classes, then re-enter the job world with higher qualifications! How's that for a plan in a nutshell? :)

If it were me, I would finish school. I'd take a breather from working, or get a part time job for the kids lunch money, gas money, etc.). Maybe that's part of why you were unhappy with the last job. You needed a breather. A real honest to goodness vacation. Weekends and sick days don't count, because in the pit of your stomach you knew that come monday you were having to go back to it. I say finish school!! If hubby's job is stable, then you can manage. Things might be tight, but you would probably end up with a better job, and if you are happier in the long run, everyone else will be too. (If momma's not happy.. NOBODYS happy!!)Follow your heart... If the hubs is behind you, I say go for it.It will give you time at home with the kids, and they aren't young forever.
